Embedded Librarian -- “ A Signature Library Program”

Mrs. Barbara Van Hooser, Reference/Interlibrary Loan Librarian, and Dr. Yildiz B. Binkley, Dean of Libraries and Media Centers, put the Library's Embedded Librarian Program together in December, 2007 and it was launched in the Spring Semester of 2008. Mrs. Van Hooser is commended for her work with this program.

This program provides a vital service to primarily the online students and faculty. However, some hybrid and on ground courses also took advantage of it. The typical library service provided by the Embedded Librarian Program includes a Web site, customized access to remote databases, electronically based, integrated library instruction, and office visits. The program encourages in-depth research and analysis, solving problems via discovery, obtaining, reviewing and analyzing relevant information. The Embedded Librarian may assist with the creation of assignments that will promote creative thinking, problem solving and information literacy.
Since Spring Semester 2008 Mrs. Barbara Van Hooser was embedded in 66 Tennessee State University online, hybrid and on ground courses and 22 RODP(Regents Online Degree Program) courses. this service will be assessed annually via a survey administered online.
