She took a bronze at the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956 and also won awards at the 1955 Pan American Games in Mexico City and during the 1958 Goodwill Tour through Moscow, Russia; Budapest, Hungary; Warsaw, Poland; and Athens, Greece. Currently, she works as a physical education teacher at Ronald E. McNair Junior High School and girls' track coach at Ronald E. McNair High School in Georgia. Over the past 26 years her teams have won numerous county, region and state titles. She has been named Coach of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, thrice named Region III Coach of the Year by the National Athletic Coaches Association and, in 1990, named National Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. In 1992, she was honored as the All-State Role Model.
